Federal health officials on Sunday, April 26, 2009, declared a public health emergency as the number of swine flu cases rose to 50. There had been confirmed cases in Texas, California, Kansas, New Jersey, Ohio and reported outbreak at a New York City private school. This particular strain of virus was first seen in Mexico where it killed as many as 150 people to date.
